Clearing the Rubble

We are coming to learn some interesting things about our new pastor.  On December 7 Pastor Karen let us know that she loves rocks!  She shared with us that insight, and beautiful smooth stones, during her children’s message and sermon that day.  The stones fit with the scripture passage of Mark 1:1-8, in which the gospel writer quotes Isaiah’s messenger in the wilderness, telling the people “Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him,” in anticipation of John the Baptist’s message.  Karen talked of the need to remove stones from a path in order to make it straight … and in the same way, we need to clean up the “stones” in our lives of sin, broken relationships, and turning away from God to make way for the coming Christ child.  We brought home Karen’s smooth stones to remind us of the path-straightening work before us.  You can hear Pastor Karen’s sermon — whether for the first time or for an encore — here.
